impressions and expressions of the events that surrounded the Genoa Social Forum and the G8 meeting in July, 2001.
it was a quite dramatic and traumatic experience for many. this documentary, which is just one of the many stories that could have been told, when more than 200.000 people come together, seeks to illuminate the joyous events, actions and imaginative theatres that painted the streets of genova with a positive colour and gave good reason to be optimistic about the future.
it features many interviews and happy images, pays sufficient attention to state repression, but fails to deliver arguments for the use of violence. Showing and explaining why the people are also ready to use violence would have been very satisfactory, but we did not manage.
Several ideas were abandoned during the two weeks we were in genova, due to violations of the police: a constant instrument of sabotage and provocation.
We lost money, laptop, blood sweat and tears in genova, but not hope.
the struggle continues, more so.
'città aperta' contains well the emotions and images that swept through our bodies - if you buy 'open city' you support independent media and the continued distribution of the film.
we would like to send it to schools and other educational institutions to let children understand the need for freedom. BUT: we need your help
